I am taking part in what is called the Virtual Paint Out and this is my first entry. I intend to do two more before the end of the month.
What is a Virtual Paint Out you may ask? Well first, a Paint Out is a part of a plein air event, usually held the last or next to last day, where the artists participating the event are given one to two hours to complete a painting, on site and get it turned in to the judges.
Well, not all of us are invited to plein air events or could afford to go to one if we were. Not a problem! Bill Guffey started a website a few years ago that takes care of the rest of us artists. His idea is pick a location each month, somewhere in the world that has a good network of Google Street View maps and “sends” us out to find scenes to paint within the boundaries of that location. The location might be as small as a city or as large as a country. Last month was New Brunswick and this month it is the country of Slovakia.
Just to get myself involved I did this quick painting and submitted it and it is now posted on the VPO website. I have two more paintings I am looking to do before the end of this month so check back to see what else I come up with.
